General Questions About Church
What does RUWA mean and why name a church after it?
More
RUWA is the Hebrew word for “shout” or “raise an alarm”. While attending a session at RAMP,
Chris Hill preached a sermon on the word RUWA. Upon hearing it the leaders of the group felt called to
name our church after it as we saw the need to shout or raise the alarm to our society today.

How was RUWA started?
More
RUWA Ministries started in June of 2006 by Pastor Rick Milone and a core group of young people.
This group had become dissatisfied with the methods the churches that they were at were using.
RUWA was started with the intention of spending the primary amount of resources on missions, outreach,
and discipleship. As well this group was tired of people talking about this generation being the next
generation of the church and never really training them to be just that. At RUWA we have a strong belief
in financial responsibility of the church and discipleship training for the leaders of tomorrows church.

Why is RUWA run by college aged people?
More
Many churches pick their leaders based on who is physically mature. At RUWA we believe in picking
leaders based on their spiritual maturity. We believe this is what Paul did when he picked a young man
by the name of Timothy. Paul encouraged Timothy later by saying “Don’t let anyone look down on you because
you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.” (Timothy 4:12)

What makes a teens and twenties church different from other churches?
More
MxPx has a song called Teenage Politics. One of the premises of the song is that this generation is nothing
like the previous generation. We at RUWA believe just that. This generation has specific needs and they need
to be spoken to differently than previous generations. We believe that this generation is important and vital
enough to be spoken to on their level and in their areas of interest and need.

What denomination do you belong to?
More
RUWA Christian Church is non-denominational.
Hide
What does non denominational mean?
More
Non denominational means that as a church we choose to not align ourselves with one particular denomination
and one particular set of beliefs. While denominations can be good for many things we believe that one negative
that comes out of them is division. Often times people begin to regard their denomination as more important than
the greater fact that we are all Christians and are all of one body. Paul speaks of this in 1 Cornithians 1:10-17
when he speaks of people saying that they follow Paul or that they follow Apollos. We find it very similar to what
people say now when they say that they follow Luther (Lutherans), the Pope (Catholics), etc. We believe that this
is exactly what Paul was warning us about in 1 Corinithians 12. There is only one infallible set of beliefs and that
is not found in any belief statement by any denomination. It is only found in the Bible.

Questions about Beliefs
What does your church believe about the Bible?
More
We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God. It is infallible and that it is the most important resource
that a Christian has. We believe that the Bible is to be used in it’s entirety. The New Testament does not replace
the Old Testament it just fulfills it, so both are still viable into our life today (Matthew 5:17). We are adamant
that the Bible must be used in it’s totality. Bible buffeting or picking and choosing what to believe from the Bible
is strictly forbidden (Revelation 22:19)

What does your church believe about abortion?
More
The Bible is pretty direct and honest about a Christian’s stance on abortion. In Chronicles God specifically forbids
and condemns the practice of sacrificing children to idols. In today’s culture we don’t sacrifice our children to wooden
idols but instead sacrifice them to the gods of convenience, one night stands, and “choice”. The Bible is very clear that
the child is formed and known by God in the womb (Jeremiah 1:5, Psalm 139:13-14). As well God specifically commands us to
“let the little children come to him” (Matthew 19:14). It seems difficult for us to allow the children to come to know him
in life when we are killing them before they get here.
On a scientific note, I (Pastor Rick), have always wondered why is it that you are clinically dead when your heart stops
beating, but you are not clinically alive when you heart starts beating. Seems very contradictory as to what makes a person alive.

What does your church believe about homosexuality?
More
The Bible is pretty direct and honest about the Christian’s stance on homosexuality. God strictly forbids homosexuality in
both the Old Testament (Leviticus 18:22, 20:13) and New Testament (Romans 1:18-32). The Bible also says that those who
practice sexual immorality will not inherit the kingdom of God (Galatians 5:20).
However, we as a church believe it to be an atrocity some of the stances that some churches have taken on homosexuality.
We do not believe that “God hates fags” or that homosexuality is a sin that is worse than others. The Bible says that “all have
sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). This puts all of us in the same position, sinners in need of
repentance. We believe that all people (liars, thieves, those that practice homosexuality, etc.) need to repent of their sin
and turn to God. It is only through repentance and turning from our sins that we can truly be saved.

What does your church believe about the charismatic movement?
More
RUWA Christian Church believes that the church is described in Acts and in the Epistles as being a charismatic church filled
with gifts designated by the Holy Spirit ( 1 Corinthians 12:1-11). Many denominations believe that the “sign” gifts (tongues,
prophecy and healing) ceased with the death of the apostles, however, there is no point in the Bible where it says that. As
well not all of the “sign” gifts that are practiced in the church today are of God. We believe that the “sign” gifts will
follow the rules that are laid out in scripture (1 Corinthians 14:26-40). As well we reject the notion that the “sign” gifts
are how we are identified as being filled by the Spirit and saved. The Bible clearly marks the signs of being filled with the
Spirit as the Fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) and not that of speaking in tongues. We believe that everyone will receive
spiritual gifts, but is up to God on which spiritual gifts they receive and that everyone and their spiritual gifts are vital
to the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:4-31)

Why do people dance/kneel/raise their hands/clap during worship?
More
We believe in all Biblical forms of worship. Therefore we allow people to dance (2 Samuel 6:16), kneel (Exodus 34:8), raise
their hands (1 Timothy 2:8), and clap (Psalms 47:1).

What is a Sunday service like?
More
Sunday morning services are not that different than what you would find in most churches on Sunday. We have a time
of praise and worship through song. Incorporated into this time is dancing, clapping, raising of hands, and bowing.
We have a time of praise and worship through giving and we have a time of praise and worship through learning from
the Bible. We finish off every service with a time of praise and worship through prayer.

Do you have a nursery?
More
At the present moment we do not have an organized nursery, where someone takes care of your child during
service. However, we do have some tools to help families of young children. We do offer a nursery room
where mothers can feed, change and sit comfortably with their children. The service is broadcast into this
area so that parents have no fear of missing out on the service. As well all children are welcome in the service.
